Before and After

So, several people have asked what we have done with our yard, and others have never seen what our place looks like. I usually have to dig through our blog posts and find some old pic (check November 2009), and the new ones are just one particular angle of the house.

So here are first a link to see what the property looked like 18 months ago, and what it looks like now. Maybe in a few years it will look a lot different and we get link back to this post.

thanks

ok you might have to click on it, it isn't getting uploaded

the After

alcove

the alcove. The source of flooding, regrading, rerocking (is that a word? we did that twice). Anyways, everything is out of there except one tree, I like it

Dad's flowers

Jolyne posted a closeup of these, but these are about the only flowers that came back from last year.....and a nice shot of the farm we get to look out our front door

our home

skipping to other side

I am skipping to the east side of the house mostly because it doesn't look that great, you can see some of Jody's dozen rose bushes she got for mothers day

down the fence

old fence, plus trees. I will miss this fence when it goes, but it isn't very straight or doing much anymore, looking down the north of our property (rocks in the ditch)

side view of NW corner

here is what the corner looks like from the side. we hope these trees will get us some nice privacy some day

back to the house + fruit trees

you can't see them so good, but along the fence there are 6 fruit trees. We put them at the front of the property because

-the will bloom and look pretty
-they are semi-dwarf so they won't get big and go into powerlines and need to be chopped (planning?)
-we like to eat them and don't want to go to end of property

on the burm

standing on top of the burm (behind those aspen)

NW corner

not a great shot, but this is the NE corner, and what you see from the corner. We dumped a ton of dirt there and we will let those aspen take over and give us some privacy

the West!!

looking at the west side of the property, those hybrid willow trees are starting to go nuts, and will get us a start on a windbreak

more backyard

more of that handsome shadow!!!

back yard

with a very handsome shadow!!!

Canal

here is our water feature (For half the year). We will get a fence in here eventually, but the girls have to stay behind our row of rocks or they are in BIG trouble

Trees

some of the 60ish trees I have planted. Jolyne planted her first trees (twigs really) this week. We may have privacy one day, but don't want to break the bank putting in mature stuff now. I think it will be nice

South East corner

no the lighting isnt the best, but here is the house from the SE corner, that is our largest tree (about 15 ft)

garden from the lawn

walking path through Jolyne's part of the garden, strawberry patch to close Right

Rain Barrel

well, my step thing I made looks better from the front!! and it looked better when it went in

Mommies Lettuce

whenever we want a salad, here it is. We can make a huge bowl of about the 3-4 types here and it just keeps growing back. So tasty!!!

Mom's herbs

Mommies herbs (most everything is doing well except the basil)

Dads Garden

so we did his and hers gardens this year. I got Onions, peppers and tomatoes. Jolyne had the herbs, lettuce and a handful of other things, to go with last years strawberries

planter box 2

one of Dad's planter boxes, this is tomatoes that are doing ok after some bad shock

fuzzy pic of a rain barrel

Fairy Houses

So....one of the girl's favorite things to do outside is to make houses for Fairies. The are running out of spare dirt to do it. This is one of the last patches I am working on (need to put more rock in there), the flowers to the right by the house, were planted by our girls.....for the fairies
